The saga of Mike and Judy

I should probably explain about Mike and Judy. They are a pair of chickens that started out as a gift from the military (Marinas). The marinas had been patrolling our beach in hopes of finding another big stash of contraband that washed up on the beach. This happened in November and we have had irregular patrols since then. The marinas, who all look like they're twelve years old ,were taking a break on our next door neighbor's porch (no one was home at the time) and Chief gave them some water. Pretty soon one of them approached Chief and handed him two baby birds. Of course, he immediately gave them to me. At the time, they just looked like baby bird, not chickens. We put them in the big cat carrier and fed them ground up cat food, cooked rice, veggies, etc. They thrived, of course, and pretty soon we were able to keep them outside during the day in a makeshift pen of chicken wire. Finally, duh, we figured out that they were chickens. I should say that any Mexican who looked at them, even four year olds, knew right away what they were. We wondered what to do with them. Chief wanted to name them Lunch and Dinner. I nixed that idea and we didn't name them. They were not going to be eaten, either. At least not while we had them. Enter Paul and Carol. They are friends who live up the street and who also walk by our house with their dog Maya, a champion hole digger. Carol told us that they were thinking of getting some chickens and offered to take them off our hands when Paul got motivated to build a chicken coop. This took a while and the chickens kept growing. And growing. The cat carrier was getting a bit small for them and finally Paul and Carol took them away on the condition that they not invite us to eat chicken at their house! Then they named them Mike and Judy, after some mutual friends. Needless to say they were flattered to have chickens named after them. A smallish coop evolved into a grand affair and there you have it. The chickens have hit the lottery.
