It's Semana Santa, or Holy Week. Everybody who can, goes to the beach. Our street, which is usually deserted, is full of cars, jeeps, people selling stuff, quadrunners, etc. The only thing that slows them down is the pits of sand every few hundred yards. There is music and hollering day and night and if you want any kind of ice cream or coconut goody you can get it in a minute. Even some little stores have sprung up. Apparently we have it easy, as Progreso, the town just east of us has over 250,000 extra people for spring break. Yowza, as my friend Claire would say! The Christians at the Christian Campamiento Rio del Norte which is located just south of us about 1/4 mile are all here too and had a big Easter service this morning. Nothing on the beach, though. I think they missed a good chance for a beach service like they used to have at Lover's Point in Pacific Grove, CA where we used to live. There are lots of skidoos, little boats, and kite surfers, too. It's our own personal Coney Island, at least for another week or two! Then we get our beach back.
