Since we are going to stay in this house another year, we had to do something about the yard. As soon as you step out of the front door there was nothing but sand, sand, and more sand. And not one thing grew in the front yard either, since that was also nothing but sand, sand, and more sand. It also made for a lot of sweeping sand out of the house. So now we have a nice red concrete pad for us and the Blazer and a lot of cocnut palms in the yard. We even found two nice ponytail palms for really cheap- less than $10.00 US for palms 4-5 feet high! I also planted the top of a pineapple and it seems to be growing pretty well. There are even some watermelon and tomato plants. It will be interesting to see what the giant iguana who lives next door likes to eat!
